Costa Teguise

costa teguiseEarlier this year, We devoted 3 weeks hopping around the Canaries. A very impressive experience, so many excursion to be had, lots of pristine beaches to see, stumbling out of bed in unique peaceful resort each day. So extraordinary, but this requires a lot of scheduling and as well , organization! It is not all set out for you. You choose your own trip and plan your private path! Thankfully the Canarian archipelago is not that big that folks could be lost there instantly. My favourite among all was Lanzarote island. It’s a pleasant little place with stunning people. It has their unique way of living as the rest of the islands have got. You’ll be able to leave behind the world if you are here. The island of lanzarote is so distinct far off and lonely to live on. You can have an incredible vacation there with all the water fun and then tours around the island. I hoped to share with you some things that I collected along the way to aid with all the preparation and just generally being a traveller. Some are simple, but when you feel like a thousand miles away from home, you can not find any wi-fi and you have barely some money on you, minor tips may feel like lifesavers! In The island of lanzarote the single thing you have to have is sun screen to bear the sizzling sun. The weather is usually bright then when it’s raining the life halts there. Residents go inside shut the doorway and windows and waiting for the storm to go.
The island of lanzarote is known as a breezy area. You are going to earliest see this when your aircraft gets ready for making a landing. The north of the island is a little more windy than the south. I you are unable to tolerate the sand inside your sandals and face make sure you get nearer to the south. Puerto del carmen is a warm and sunny resort anytime of the season to enjoy with clubs and eateries to go out.
Playa blanca is also a lovely area for most of the holidaymakers with its amazing scenery and slow paced life. It’s the favorite area for the families and folks searching for a bit more slow paced trip. The island only and greatest jazz place the Blue Note is also set here which says quite a lot about the people that come here as well.
Costa Teguise is the most windy of them all and windsurfers like that very much. If you aren’t into jazz music or giant celebrations then this is your place to be on a holiday. There are resort hotels, flats, bars and restaurants of any kind to pass your time after a troublesome day at the outdoor pool.
If you are more into bars than trekking under the blazing sun then you might need some dough as well. Lodges are usually low cost so is the food as well as the alcoholic beverages in the pubs. Most accommodations are full board which makes life quite easy if you are not into cooking your own personal diet or seeking eateries day after day to enjoy a average meal. Mind that the majority of shops would not approve cards under a specific amount so having cash in Lanzarote could be lifesaver.

Costa Teguise – Lanzarote
Costa Teguise is Lanzarote’s first tourist resort planned and constructed entirely with tourism in mind.
Here you can find the 5star Gran Melia Salinas which marks the starting of construction works in 1970.
In Spanish style the infrastructure was planned and constructed before the buildings were up which is why there is still place for Costa Teguise to grow.
It is located on the north-east side of the island 15 km / 10 miles from the Airport. A taxi is the easiest solution to get here but there are airport shuttle services to choose from too. Public transport is also available but you need to change lines in Arrecife (Línea 22 then 3 to Costa Teguise) because somehow direct public transfers don’t exist.
Costa Teguise has four main beaches:
Playa de los Charcos
This is the only beach with golden sand. It is a well-known destination among windsurfers as the yearly European freestyle windsurf championship is taking place here around July. Which happens to be the windiest month in Lanzarote.
You may expect quite a lot wind here.
Playa de las Cucharas
The most popular one with white sand and the rippling sunshine on the morning waves. It’s equipped with toilet which is open from 10.00-18.00. Baywatch station working showers and nice new sand coloured sunbeds and sun-umbrellas which shuns the cheap looking orange-blue compositions and blend into the harmony of the shore. It’s nice to have a stroll here in the morning or the afternoon or pop in one of the bars if you aren’t committed to the scorching sun during the day.
Playa del Jablillo
The gem of the village. This is the best for families with small children. The artificial reef breaks almost all the waves and leaves us with an almost lake like pond. One side of the shore has lovely white sand with black rocks to fence yourself from the wind. The opposite side looks just as tempting but it has a natural rocky Baby-Stroller defence system.
It’s worth to mention that swimmers, snorkelers take great delight here too and if you are into diving there is a diving centre right next to the beach.
Playa Bastián
This beach isn’t really that much about sea as rather gathering together and have fun. There is a rather small waterfront and mixture of white sand and small grained black volcanic rock on the shore. This is a great place if you don’t like when the sand is all over you for weeks.
The main strength is right behind the shore where there are semi-circle walled slots. Here people of all age and race host picnics with barbecue and beer under the palm trees. It’s a lovely atmosphere to celebrate ones birthday there.
Things to do in Costa Teguise
Golf
It’s as incredible as it sounds but there is place to play golf on the island. As Costa Teguise was purposely built to be a premium resort it couldn’t lack the premium features. Costa Teguise golf club was the only green on the island for 30 years. There is more now. It isn’t bad from an island without actual fresh water resources, is it?
Costa Teguise Water Park
If you are bored of the sea or afraid of all the living creatures swarming around while you are swimming then head to the Aquapark It isn’t as cheap as sweating on the beach but it is definitely more exciting than that. You can check out the price if the site works and find out about ongoing deals, too. It’s open from 10.00 to 18.00 and there is free Wi-Fi. Here is a nice YouTube video about it: Costa Teguise Waterpark
Paintball
There is an indoor paintball field inside the Aquapark for up to 10 people. Sorry but it’s only available if you are over 14 years old.
Adventure Park
Aquarium
Are you longing to see the fauna of the deep blue but aren’t really into diving or submarining? There is a small but lovely aquarium here where you can stop by and stare at the noble ray as long as you wish. You may find some huge vicious looking turtles there as well. It’s quite pricey, though. I guess the sharks need a lot to eat.
Market on the main square
You have just arrived at the hotel and your first thought is “Hey, where can I get some nice presents for the unlucky ones stuck back home?”
On Wednesday 18.00 – 22.00 there is a charming little craftsman market at Pueblo Marinero the main square of the village. You can get really nice unique jewellery, bars of soap and presents here.
On Friday 17.00 – 22.00 there is general market packed with clothes, fake designer bags and some nice things. It’s the small version of the great Sunday Teguise market.
Farmers Market is held every Tuesday morning from 9 to 14.00 here with delicious cheese and typical Canarian food. I would steer you away of the vegetables though if you are not familiar with the vendors. Some aren’t really selling goods from the island but just goods you can get in the shops, generally cheaper.
Sport
Jogging on the island is more challenging than in the gym due to the landscape and the wind but it is also more pleasing. Sometimes unknown people cheer for you on the street wholeheartedly. It’s a really nice experience.
There are numerous bike renting stations in the village if you are up to the challenging landscape. Bikers really love the ride here.
Swimming is another obvious activity but be aware of the tide if you are heading to the sea. If it seems easy to swim out it will be quite though to get back to the shore. The safest place is to enjoy the water is Playa de Jablillo.
Shopping
Well. Lanzarote is not a shopping paradise and Costa Teguise is not the roundest pearl on it. You can find shops here but if you are into shopping you may check out Biosfera in Puerto Del Carmen There is Deiland in Playa Honda too but I would not waste words on it neither should you, your time except if you have plenty.
Costa Teguise Weather
Under the umbrella of Lanzarote’s climate Costa Teguise is sunny and windy. Certain times it’s windier, like in July but otherwise wind lull is like Scottish summer. Clouds aren’t live long either but there are considerably more shady days here than in Puerto Del Carmen.
GET SUNSCREEN when the sun peeps out of the morning clouds. Around 10am on the beach it’s already scorching hot. You get burned badly before you get your lunch. Apply sunscreen or earn your well deserved name: guiri (kihrih).
